Family Comedy Night Gimmick
11 March in The Comfort Room, Makati.
Mama's old friend Tito Joseph and his young colleague Nathan had been in Manila for a while, waiting for their new office in the Enterprise to open. Mama and NInang Corito thought that it would be fun for all of us to take them out, so we decided to bring them to The Comfort Room along Jupiter to watch our friends from SPIT (Silly People's Improv Troupe) perform.
We met up and had dinner in the nearby Bacolod Chicken House, and when we got to The Comfort Room, we were in for a treat. Oni Ocampo, a Pinoy ventriloquist, gave a really cute act with a mix of politics, showbiz and others. My favorite puppet was Lulu, a little furry something that wanted to be in show business.
After that, we were surprised to see Bro. Mike sitting at the table near us. He was tanned and wearing a really flashy suit with flowers sticking out of his pocket. "I am bro. Mike of El Shaldan! El Shadan! Freshens your car! Freshens your life!" It was John Santos. The same one who impersonates Imelda, Erap, anyone and everyone he can think of, and he does impersonations well, perfecting everything from the delivery to the darn clothes.
Finally, SPIT came up and we all had fun watching them interact with the audience. Most of their acts were in Tagalog, but Tito Joseph and Nathan were able to pick up a bit and laugh along with us. The biggest laugh, however, was when Mama was asked to go on stage for the Radio Play Game. Just like in Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Mama and another member from the audience were asked to do sound effects for 2 SPIT comedians, and the result was a disaster. Haha!
